FarmEco Community Farm

FarmEco are in the final year of Organic Conversion under the Soil Association. Farmacy Co-op are delighted to be able to support them in their Organic conversion journey. They are a registered Community Benefit Society with a vision to build a sustainable farming model that benefits both the community and the environment. They are currently run by volunteers and raise money to continue the work they do through shares, fundraising and donations, grants, sales of apple juice and vinegar, running workshops and experiences, hosting family fun days, as well as rent from their partner businesses. FarmEco is a Community Farm, they run lots of amazing community groups, such as Home Education Forest School, Men & Women in Sheds, Young People and Adult Disability Gardening Club. As well as lots of links with local schools and colleges, they have referrals for social prescribing & wellbeing. Even a Cider making club! All this as well as conservation projects and farming! We are hoping to get some more apples from them soon and even Medlars, but for this Co-op, we can offer you some very unusual produce: Sea Buckthorn Autumn Olive Berries Rosehips Hawthorn Berries Please see the website for more details and a full description of each. We realise that these items can be foraged for free, but we wanted to offer them to those who cannot get out and forage for themselves, or do not have the confidence to know what they are harvesting. As these are more unusual, we have limited availability, and only in season, so please order soon to avoid disappointment. We have added these under a new section titled Forage, Superfood & Remedies. One thing to be mindful of is that some of these items have medicinal qualities, so please do check if you are taking any medications, as they can affect some blood thinning medicines for example. Also from FarmEco, we have limited numbers of heritage apple varieties: Lord Derby (cooking) Annie Elizabeth (cooking) Spartan (eating) James Grieve (cooking & eating) And later in the season we are promised: Other varieties of apples e.g. Egremont Russet, crab apples, Medlars Rowan berries Walnuts Maybe sweet chestnuts & quinces Next year: red/white/pink/black currants Green walnuts early in the season (June) Plums, damsons and green gages Use their website to find out more about FarmEco. If you live near them and would like to volunteer, they would be delighted to hear from you.
